Our Country's Veterans looks like a pro-patriotic comic

The American Legion's announced updates for a comic called Our Country's Veterans, a history product that appears to be favorable to patriotic values and the army:
The American Legion’s “Our Country’s Veterans” comic book educates youth about what a veteran is, the variety of roles they can do in the armed forces, their service and sacrifice, how to thank a veteran and how to be a good citizen. The comic book has gone through a recent major overhaul to update veteran war eras – to include Iraq – uniform and dress style, diversity, a representation of all six branches of services and more.

“Our Country’s Veterans” comic book is available for purchase through Emblem Sales, Item No. 755.304. The cost is 75 cents a piece or 100 for 59 cents a piece. This comic book is an educational tool Legion Family members can give to elementary students to help them understand the military service of our men and women.
This is what the industry as a whole sorely needs, and tragically, you will not find it at this point coming from the mainstream Big Two. But what's really sad is that with the way the USA military is going these days, who knows how easy it would be for today's students who're realists to admire and honor the army if they're turning to wokeness? That's the unfortunate part of this whole subject, when you look at it through a realist lens. As a result, who knows how many students who appreciate patriotism will be feel encouraged to even join the military the way it's going now? That's why, sadly enough, it could all undermine the mission this comic book was developed for. I appreciate what the publishers of Our Country's Veterans set out to do, but today's reality could regrettably dampen its impact. And that's a shame.

  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
